Happy New Year! And happy new Scallywags pet of the month! This month we are meeting a beautiful ragdoll cat called Teddy, who has some very special bouncy friends.

Good afternoon Teddy
Hiii
Who are your cute little friends you have with you today?
These are my best friends – Chip, Nala and Belle!
My goodness, you are all a very sweet bunch! Would it be okay for me to ask you some questions today?
The bunnies have to hop off now, but I will answer your questions.
Thank you, Teddy! Your friends are lovely, do they have any nice nicknames for you?
Everyone calls me Teddy Bear.
Well, that’s adorable. Can you describe your perfect day for me?
Easy, I would sleep in the sunshine all day.
How relaxing. Do you like playing any games or pass-times?
I do, I love playing fetch with my mouse toys and playing outside in the long grass.
A mouse toy? Is that your favourite toy?
Yes, I love my mice toys, I have quite the collection. Oh, and I love cardboard boxes, I can play in those for hours.
That sounds brilliant! Do you ever play with things you’re not supposed to and get in trouble?
Yes, I love to play hide and seek in the field next to my house and when my Mum calls me, I pretend I can’t hear her and hide. I also love to sharpen my claws on the sofa!
I bet your Mum gets very worried.
She does, but I am good most of the time so she forgives me.
Good. Does she give you any nice treats when you’re being good?
Yes, I get chicken and ham, my favourites.
Delicious. Now, for our last and most important question.

Our September Pet of the Month for Scallywags is Beckie!

As we head into September, we have another wonderful Pet of the Month to share with you. Meet Beckie, a gorgeous Shih Tzu who loves nothing better than playing with her toys.
Good afternoon Beckie.
Good afternoon friend, have you come to play?
I have! But before we play, would it be okay to ask you some questions first, please?
Okay, that will be fine.
Excellent! Is it okay if I call you Beckie, or do you have any preferred nicknames?
Beckie is best, my Mum called me “baby boo boo”, and that’s just embarrassing!
Okay, we will avoid that one. Describe your perfect day to me, Beckie.
Easy! My perfect day is any day when Mummy is not working and I get her all to myself.
Awh, that’s lovely. Is Mummy your best friend?
Yes, one of them, but I also have a best friend called Lucy. She is a Yorkshire Terrier and she loves to play with me.
It’s great having lots of best friends. What is your favourite game to play?
I love playing with my ball best. I like chasing it and fetching it and throwing it in the air and carrying it around and slobbering on it and did I say chasing it?
You did!
I love my ball.
Do you have any other favourite toys?
I love all my toys. I love playing. Is it time to play?
Almost! So, when you are good, what are your favourite treats to have as a reward?
I will eat any treats. I love treats. Can I have a treat now?
You can have a treat when we’re finished.

Of course not!

Our August Pet of the Month for Scallywags is Ronnie!

Summer is in full swing and it’s time to meet another gorgeous Pet of the Month! Let me introduce you to Ronnie the tabby cat, a handsome chap who loves a good catnap!
Good morning Ronnie.
Ah, yes, good morning to you.
How are you this morning?
Tired. But it’s almost naptime.
I won’t keep you for long, naps are very important.
Indeed. Let’s get to it.
So, firstly, is it okay if I call you Ronnie? I have heard you have many nicknames.
Ronnie is fine. My humans call me all sorts of things: Bubbs, Bubba, Ron-Bon, Ronald, Ron…sometimes Nee-Nee. Honestly, the list goes on.
Sounds like they adore you! Do you get lots of treats from them?
I do. My favourites are those pouches of Dreamies, absolutely scrumptious!
Mmm, sounds wonderful. How would you describe your perfect day, Ronnie?
Simple. Eat, sleep – repeat.
Easy to please! Do you ever have any playtime?
I do, when the mood strikes. I often partake in a good lace chase, but on my terms of course.
Of course. Do you have any favourite toys?
Yes, one of Dad’s old laces. You can’t beat the classics!
You really can’t. Is your Dad your best friend?
Cats don’t have friends, just e-quaintances.
I see! Tell me, Ronnie, do you ever get in trouble for getting up to mischief?
There is the occasional disagreement over birdie watching, apparently playing with local wildlife is frowned upon.
Mmm, birds are friends Ronnie, not toys.
If you say so. *yawn*

Our July Pets of the Month for Scallywags are Hunter & Olive

Summer is officially here and so it’s time to spread some cheer with not one, but two Pets of the Month! We have the beautiful Hunter, a Hungarian Wirehead Vizsla and his younger sister Olive, a cockapoo puppy!

How are you doing today?
Very well, thank you.
Is it okay if I ask you some questions today, about you and your sister, Olive?
Yes, I will do the answering because she is just a baby.
Well, you guys are both beautiful! Thank you, Hunter, most appreciated.
No problem!
So tell me, if you could describe your perfect day, what would it involve?
Waking up to lots of attention and cuddles, and then going for a long dog walk with plenty of lakes to swim in! There would be lots of dog biscuits, meat and treats. Another evening walk. And at the end of the day, we would both get lots and lots of cuddles on the sofa with Mum.
That sounds wonderful, I love sofa cuddles! So, would you say Mum is your best friend?
One of them, but our bestest friends are Jett and Izzy.
You two are very popular! Do any of your friends call you by any nicknames?
Yes, we get called “Hun Bun” and “Olivina”. But we like it.
Those are lovely names. Do either of you ever get up to any mischief?
Yes, Olive likes to climb on the table when Mum isn’t around. She also likes to chew things up. I, on the other hand, am an angel.
I can imagine. What are your favourite type of treats for when you are good?
We love pig ears, meaty chew sticks, rabbit ears and cheeeeeese…
Oh, cheese is delicious – an excellent choice.

We love going for walks and chasing balls.
Do you have any favourite toys?
Balls forever!

Scallywags Pet of the Month – June ’23

Our June Pet of the Month for Scallywags is Buddy!

We have a very special Pet of the Month for June, who is super excited to tell you about himself. Meet Buddy, a gorgeous golden retriever who lives to eat.
Good afternoon Buddy!
Oh hi, I am so glad you are here. Did you bring the treats?
I did! But your Mum said we have to wait until after the questions, okay?
Okay, okay, okay, let’s get the questions part done.
I will jump straight in then Buddy! So, do you have any nicknames?
Budd, Mr. B, “Oi you cheeky chap, give me my shoe back!”aaaaaand Budd-boo.
That’s a long nickname. So, tell me, who is your best friend?
Dora the labrador was my bestest best friend, even if she laughed at me because I didn’t like to swim. I loved to play “silly dogs” with her every evening, share the sofa with her, and play “branch managers” on the field.
How lovely. Aside from “branch managers”, how else do you like to spend your time?
Pretending to be a lap dog for maximum snuggles, and helping the humans to carry things they didn’t know they needed (like a spare shoe, or some pyjama bottoms).
So helpful. If you could plan the perfect day, what would it entail?
Morning treatos, followed by a walk on the beach and a paddle in the sea (I don’t like swimming though!), then a good spa treatment (towelling and brushing!) and a nice big lunch. Maybe some more snackos… don’t want to get hungry… and a good nap in the afternoon on the sofa.
Got to make time to collect some shoes, socks, and assorted laundry as well – I’m a laundry retriever, and I take my job seriously! Better have another treato after all that shoe-carrying and sock-collecting – carrot time, yum.
Then playtime with the humans, and it’s time to watch the telly and have a sing-along with any animals on the screen. Better give the humans another cuddle too (they’re such velcro humans).
That sounds like a brilliant day! Can I join you?
Of course! But bring snacks.
Okay. Which snacks are your favourite, Buddy?
All of them!! Carrots are yummy! But so is that salmon sandwich you left on the table…oooh, are those Dentastix you’ve got there? And TURKEY SLICES? Oh boy!
You sure like your food, I can relate to that. How about toys, do you have any special toys?
My soft toy bunny is so tatty and stinky – he’s my favourite! I love to carry him around when there are no smelly socks available, and offer him to any house guests. Honourable mention to my soft toy hamburger – if only it were real…
Well, now I am craving a hamburger.
Should we get one after questions?
Very tempting! But I think I’d get told off. Do you ever get told off for any naughty habits?
I do like to sing to the neighbours through the fence. Loudly. They need to hear my “Awooo” chorus in the evening, so they can appreciate my beautiful baritone voice. And, sometimes, I MAY accidentally misplace one of the humans’ shoes, right when they need it – but how was I supposed to know that humans can’t smell where their stinky shoes are hidden?
It’s true, our sense of smell is lacklustre. Right, you will be glad to hear there is just one more question and then it will be snack time!
Yaaaay, bring it on.
Are you a good boy?
I am the goodest of good boys (even when I’m naughty) which is why I deserve a treat! Maybe even chicken! Maybe even TWO bits of chicken! OR MORE! Because I’m so good.

Great, thank you, I just had a nice nap on the windowsill.
That sounds lovely, are you a fan of the sunshine?
Absolutely, sunbathing is my life.
Let’s hope we get plenty of sunshine this summer for you.

Mum calls me Tyler Poops.
Well, that’s adorable. Is Mum your best friend?
Nah, I love her but my best friend is Felix, my playmate.
Lovely. What games do you and Felix like to play?
We run around and chase things, sometimes watch the fish, but best of all we like to play with my squeaky mouse!
Your mouse sounds like fun! Do you have any toys you like playing with?
I love it when Mum leaves out the treat ball. I have to roll it and bash it around and then biscuits come out, it’s the best.
I’d love one of those! What sort of biscuits do you like best?
My favourite treats have to be Dreamies, they are so tasty.
I bet! Do you ever get in trouble for naughty habits, Tyler?
Yes. I like scratching the furniture, and apparently, that’s not allowed.

Are you getting excited for Easter?
I am, my Mum keeps hiding colourful eggs for me to fetch.
Are you sure they’re for fetching?
Of course, just like the shoes and socks. People leave them all over the house for me to bring back to them. I like to help.
That is very kind of you. Are you sure they don’t mind?
Absolutely. Mummy sometimes puts her socks in the spinning machine, so I am constantly having to fetch them out and put them back. She would be lost without my help.
I am sure she would. Is Mummy your best friend?
She is!
That’s lovely. How would you describe your perfect day?
I love every day. I am happy as long as there is some eating, some sleeping and plenty of playing.
Me too, Max. What is your favourite game to play?
I love chasing a ball best.
Fantastic! Is the ball your favourite toy?
Nope, my favourite toy is my blanket. I nibble it and chew it all up and it’s so much fun.

How are you doing today?
Good thank you, I have just been taking a nap.
Well, that sounds lovely, would it be okay for me to ask you a few questions?
Sure thing.
So, Mango, tell me about your most loved toy.
It’s my squeaky mouse, I like squishing it and squeaking it lots, even when Mum is trying to watch TV.
Awh, is your Mum your best friend?
Yes, she is my favourite.
How lovely. Do you have any naughty habits that upset Mum?
She gets a bit loud and cross when I wake her up early in the morning, but I can hear the birds.
Those cheeky birds!
I love watching the birds from the window.
That sounds fun, what other things do you like to do?
I love scratching my carrot tree and taking long naps.
Sounds perfect. Tell me, Mango, do you ever get called any funny nicknames?
Yes. Mummy is always calling me “bubby”, it’s so embarrassing. And sometimes “Mango Moggy” – I don’t even know what that means!
Me neither! Sounds like she adores you though. Do you ever get any yummy treats from Mum?
Yep, and my favourite ones are called Dreamies. Especially the chicken or duck flavour.

It’s afternoon already? I napped through lunch!
You did! Would it be okay for me to ask you a few questions, and then we can get you a nice snack?
Of course, but I choose the snack.
What is your favourite type of snack?
I love chicken but I do eat everything, literally. Sticks, stones, cushions and even blankets!
Blankets?! You’ve lost me there.
They are delicious!
Each to their own, William. Do you ever get any nicknames?
Mum sometimes calls me naughty words, especially when I’ve been snacking on blankets…
I can imagine, but we won’t repeat those. If you could plan your perfect day, what would you get up to?
Well, I love sleeping, especially after a nice long walk. So I would spend the first part of my day running around and around in a big field and then I would sleep on the couch for the rest of the day.
That sounds wonderful. Would your best friend be there with you?
Everyone is my best friend. I love all the humans, especially when I get pets and snacks.
That’s lovely. Do the humans ever tell you off for being naughty?
Yes, I can be a bit of a thief! I am always in trouble for stealing slippers, socks, tea towels…and well, anything really!

Absolutely, I am always happy to chat.
Perfect. So, tell me, do you have any favourite snacks?
I love dreamies, any flavour, they are the tastiest.
Delicious. And how about a favourite toy?
I don’t know its name, but Dad lets me play with this cool thing that shoots out feathers at random. A bit like whack-a-mole!
That sounds awesome! Would you say Dad is your best friend?
No, he’s nice but my best friend is my little grey toy reindeer. She is my baby.
That’s so sweet. Now, what would you say is your favourite pass time or game?
I love chasing rolled-up balls of tinfoil down the hall. Dad throws them for me and they are so shiny and I jump to catch them!
What a fun idea! Do you ever get in trouble with your Dad?
Yes, when I play around with the curtains. I used to climb them when I was younger!
Oh dear, well we can’t always be perfect. Does he forgive you?
Yes, he calls me “fluff ball” when he forgives me.
That’s adorable. If you could plan your perfect day, what would it involve?
Waking my Dad up at 4.30 am to get brushed, sleep on the back of the chair and then play in the evening.
