Why do they call it a gazebo?
-
The term gazebo dates all the way back to the 18th century. People combined the latin suffix 'ebo' with the word gaze, translating roughly to 'I shall Gaze'. Gazebos were often built in the gardens of large manor houses where people would sit and gaze out across their gardens. The concept of a 'viewing pavilion' outdoors dates even further back, but the term gazebo arose later in somewhat of a jovial nature.
