Small garden? Time for some big ideas!

Having a smaller outdoor space can sometimes leave you feeling restricted when it comes to design – but this doesn’t have to be the case. Whether you have a compact balcony, petite patio or a narrow garden, we have some great ideas to help make the most of your space.

Garden Mirrors make beautiful features

Time to reflect

Garden mirrors are becoming increasingly popular, and it’s not surprising as they make a wonderful feature. Adding reflect surfaces into a small space will make it feel bigger, this works outside as well as inside! You can add reflections with garden mirrors, metallic surfaces and water features. This is a great and inexpensive way to make your small garden feel bigger.

Time to grow up

Smaller gardens and patios may not have extensive garden beds and planting space, but don’t let that hold you back. Raised planters are a fantastic way of adding colour to your patio. Deep planters give plenty of room for shrubs and perennials, so you don’t have to feel restricted in your plant choice. Garden trellis gives climbing plants the perfect home, letting their blooms reach great heights in the summer months.

Time to hang out

Drawing the eye to higher areas will take the focus off the size of your outdoor space. Hanging baskets are a fantastic way to easily add colour to fences and walls. Try potting some vibrant bedding plants in your choice of hanging baskets and make an elevated focal point.

Time to tuck in

Small gardens can still have room for everyone. You may not have room for a larger garden furniture set, but you could fit in a space-saving furniture set. Try a set of folding garden furniture or tuck-under chairs for your patio. Keep everything neatly tucked to one side when not in use, with the option to gather around for garden hangouts.

Find Garden Lighting for every space

Time to shine

Outdoor solar lights provide decoration as well as lighting. If you are tight on space, add some solar stake lights to your pot plants or flower beds. Hanging string lights is another great way to draw people’s eyes upwards, taking the focus away from size. If you have an outdoor structure or cover, you can drape it with solar fairy lights, or even wrap them around a tree trunk.

Recliners and Swing Sets are ideal for relaxing

Time to say yes

If you find yourself saying “my garden is too small for that” a lot, try shaking off that mindset. If there is a garden feature you have your heart set on, question if your space is truly too small for it before brushing off the idea. Take this gorgeous hammock swing for example, if the frame fits on your patio, just go for it. Let the rest of your garden work around the item you love the most, there are no rules – just make a space you love.
