Fast to mature, these sweet baby or finger carrots grow at a high density. Perfect for growing in large pots and containers or small gardens. Regular sowings, made every two to three weeks, will ensure a continuous supply of young roots.

Root vegetables boast a host of colours and flavours and include carrots, radish, horseradish, sweet potato, turnip and beetroot. Their low rate of metabolism allows for a relatively long postharvest life. Thanks to their high water content, they are key ingredients for a low fat diet. This wholefood is well suited for all cooking options: grilling, mashing, roasting, frying and even in soups. Don't skimp on sunshine when growing them!

When to Sow: January-July
When to Harvest: April-October
Soil Type: Light stone free soil
Advice: Keep well watered (especially in containers) to prevent the roots splitting
Protect early sowings with cloches
Packet Contents: Average 1500 seeds
Latin name: Daucus carota
Transplanting: Best sown directly in large pots or containers
