A cross between a gage and a plum, easy to grow and self-fertile, 'Opal' is an incredibly heavy cropper, producing an abundance of small sweet plums that taste absolutely delicious. The fruits are delightfully rustic looking with their skins in shades of purple, red and yellow. Offering excellent disease resistance and vigorous growth, if you only plant one plum tree, this is the one. Great for making jam and other preserves, but actually considered too juicy for a traditional plum pie, so try it in a crumble instead. Growing fruit tress enhances the well-being of the environment and that of you and your family. Crops of fresh, heathy fruit right on your doorstep while replenishing the tree population and reducing plastic consumption.

Supplied as an established plant, 90-110cm tall in a 5L pot, ready for immediate planting.

Care Guide
- Water regularly, and apply a mulch of well-rotted compost or manure over winter.
- Stone fruit should not be pruned during winter, to minimise the risk of infection – early summer is the ideal time.
- Established trees don't require radical pruning; just take off any diseased, dying or damaged branches (the three Ds). Look at the overall shape and aim for an open structure of branches, removing any that cross over so they don't damage each other.
- Hang wasp traps in trees and harvest crops as soon as they ripen. Avoid leaving windfalls or overripe fruit on the ground.
- 'Opal' is a heavy cropper, so thinning the fruits in mid June will stop branches breaking under their weight.
