A small outdoor space doesn’t mean you can’t have a beautiful garden. Add colour and intricate shapes with planters and potted flowers. Make it interesting at eye level with some outdoor décor and solar lights. Then invest in a bistro set or an individual garden chair to really enjoy the small, yet perfect view.

You don’t need to break the bank to love your garden. Planning ahead is key with a budget, so do your research. Try growing your plants from seeds, or start with smaller shrubs and swap with friends and neighbours. Adding a fresh lick of paint to your fences and existing outdoor furniture will brighten things up, or you can buy more affordable folding furniture until you’re ready for a larger investment.

For a low maintenance, easy-care garden, you’ve got to put in a little work first. Our top tips are to keep your plants to a minimum in large pots and planters. To reduce weeding in planted borders, use a mulch layer of gravel or bark. You could even go grass-free with paving slabs or gravel and make use of the space for some garden furniture.

If you really want to go big on the outdoor décor, consider introducing decking for a dedicated seating area. Or add in some structure with a gazebo or some trellis with climbing plants. For a smaller flourish, try incorporating some outdoor lighting and decorative ornaments at different heights. And don’t forget that painting your fence can give you a whole new perspective.
