QD Stores support Toys & Tins Appeal ![]() The Salvation Army and BBC Radio Norfolk Toys and Tins Appeal launches on Monday November 23rd at the QD Stores in North Walsham from where the Radio Norfolk Roadshow will broadcast the morning and lunchtime shows and the Salvation Army Band will be playing Christmas tunes. Throughout this first week the Radio Norfolk Roadshow and Salvation Army band will travel to different parts of the county calling at Hunstanton, Holt, Diss and King’s Lynn. A van, loaned by Holden’s of Norwich, will be on site to receive gifts from the public of toys and tins. The Appeal, run for almost 30 years, offers food hampers and toy sacks to those families who would not otherwise enjoy a Christmas. Last year more than 1000 families received parcels including 1354 adults and 1510 children. And the numbers increase each year. While staple products are purchased for the food hampers by the Salvation Army, the public is asked to contribute extras in the form of tins of soup, fruit, baked beans, peas, spaghetti, fish, meat, biscuits, cakes, Christmas products and sweets. Last year a butcher in Litcham supplied 500 boxes of mince pies! Toy sacks cater for all children from newborn to age 16 and the Appeal relies on members of the public to meet this demand. Items for teenage boys are always in short supply. The Appeal benefits from the generosity of the public and the help given by shops and stores. This year the public can donate at all QD stores across the region including Anglia Square and St. Stephens, Norwich, Gorleston, Great Yarmouth, Dereham, North Walsham, Beccles and Lowestoft and Lathams of Potter Heigham. Donations can also be taken to any Salvation Army charity shop. Volunteers sort and pack the hampers and toy sacks before they are dispatched across the county in a van loaned by Barford Van Hire. Thanks to the generosity of both the public and businesses across the county, and volunteers who make it possible, more families are able to enjoy the Spirit of Christmas.
